PiP was one of my all-time favorites when I was it’s target audience. I fully expected it to make me utterly embarrassed for teenage me, but I thought it mostly held up pretty well. Duckie’s behavior never seems threatening, and he grows out of it, y’know? It’s a lot to process for someone who is supposed to be 17-18 and he seems to come to the conclusion that his friendship with Andie is more important than his crush on her. I wrote a list review on Tumbler —

1. I am still Team Duckie.

2. The prom dress has grown on me. I still don’t love it, but I no longer think it’s the fugliest frock forever.

3. Annie Potts is amazing.

4. Harry Dean Stanton is amazing.

5. Holy shit, I totally forgot Andrew Dice Clay was in this.

6. Andie and Duckie were so totally my look for so long. I had, like, half their wardrobes, and wanted the other half. I still have the Duckman’s tuxedo jacket somewhere.

7. Ooo, Michael Penn’s No Myth. Very nice.

8. “I always believed in you. You just didn’t believe in me.” What kind of passive-aggressive bullshit is that, Blane?

9. Yes, Duckie does some Nice Guy™ stuff, but he pulls out of it, and he’s there for Andie, on her terms, by the end.

10. Why did flower jeans go out of style?

11. Or brooches with giant glass stones?

12. Or bowler hats with silk roses?

13. Okay, I know what happened to the Trilby. Poor innocent little hat.

14. Did preppies really wear that much linen? Steph looks like a big, old, rumpled bed.

15. “He’s a… richie.” I still cringe for users of teen slang everywhere. What the actual hell is that?

16. The only thing realistic about that computer lab is the clicky-clacky keyboards. Star Trek may have predicted the iPad, but Pretty In Pink predicted text flirting.

17. Molly Ringwald is amazing.

18. I’ve never watched Two and a Half Men because I want to remember Jon Cryer as amazing.

19. Otis Redding.

20. I had Annie Potts’ pearl necklace too.

I really need to get out of the house for at least a few days.

Had you seen Pretty in Pink before? It seems very dated watching it now. Lots of stalking.
