Elan is all puzzled – Rafa’s miserable because he screwed up with YOU, Elan! Your doing-good-from-afar doesn’t touch the basic problem here…

Though it’s pretty funny that everyone wants Rafa’s stuff because he ignores them. Figures.

    • JesBelle

That’s not really how I took the money comment. More money for the gallery means more fancy openings, means more wealthy collectors want to go there, means more and better quality artists want to sell there, means more collectors want to go, an so on and so forth. When the gallery prospers, it has more opportunities to spread some joy around — beautiful objects for those with the cash, and cash for those who can make beautiful things. More money for the artist means less time scrambling for ramen and more time arting.

      • kuku

Yeah, that’s fair, thanks. It is definitely really hard to make a living as an artist.

        • JesBelle

You’ve got a good point too. Money sure hasn’t made Elan happy.

I hope Pandora’s choice of words sparks the idea in Elan’s head that there are other ways to use money other than hoarding it or giving it away. Properly managed, his inheritance could give many people opportunities for a very long time.

  • PomixWing

ELAN, YOU’RE NOT PART OF HIS LIFE ANYMORE. OF COURSE HE’D BE MISERABLE, WITHOUT YOU! I hope he starts putting 1 and 2 together, please TT A TT

  • bronakopdin

    see Elan?!?!?!
YOU have to be at his side to make him whole again! :D

    • Elan operates under the perception that he is meaningless. He is in a position to take action for the sake of others, but his personal presence as a human being is pointless. Look at his current relationships. He is a benefactor and a tutor. At this moment, Elan is a “human doing.” He isn’t a “human being.” Given this mindset he has done the most for Rafa that he can. He has seen that Rafa has opportunity to excel by his own talent and merit. His presence is not required otherwise. This is wrong, of course, but until Elan changes his mode of thinking nothing is going to change.

      • bronakopdin

I know this is why I told him to go see him xD
which actually translates to change his mind, don’t you think :)

      • kuku

Except maybe for George – they had some personal things to say to each other. Elan said he would tell George anything he wanted. He’s never said anything like that to anyone else.

But in general I think you have a really good point. Sadly it’s a mindset that is kind of familiar.

      • D. Garrett

i think elan is a human being. he just doesnt have the benefit of being in love. or feeling loved. i believe that he is loved. (by his butler, uncle, carlise, probably scott to some degree already, and rafa of course) but i think he is unable to feel it, process it or believe in the honesty of it. he is functioning without love. as people everywhere do all the time. truthfully, elans presence really is no longer required. and they can both move on.

i dont think he views himself as meaningless. i think he has found purpose in helping others, but not happiness. but happiness is fickle and fleeting. sometimes we have it, both with and without love, and sometimes we dont. i suppose if humans could pick a permanent state of mind, most would pick happy. i think id settle for content. (too much smiling irks me.)

  • D. Garrett

i hope elan deduces that the end of their relationship effected rafa. that he really cared for and loves elan. he def has the info that his demeanor has changed. i hope this prompts some action on elans part. *crosses fingers. u_u

    • Sadly, given the nature of Elan’s insecurity, that is likely the last thing he deduces. Elan is propping up his belief that he is unlovable in his every thought and deed. Loving from afar because he doesn’t believe anyone wants him. As a famous Whoopi Goldberg character once said, “If a man is convinced he is going to die tomorrow, he will find a way to make it happen.”

      • kuku

Yeah, I think that’s true of what Elan believes about Rafa, but he isn’t “afar” with George or the kids he tutors. He believes in himself as friend and tutor. But not as lover, or at least not of Rafa. I wish he would go see Carlise at any rate but it’s like he thinks Rafa got custody of their friends in a divorce….

        • I suspect you are closer to the truth than any of us knows. Elan has so far avoided any direct contact with Rafa’s life. I theorize that he does so to avoid the chance of deliberately running into Rafa. He seems to incidentally accept contact with Rafa. That is, around the neighborhood like when they meet with the pigeons. He appears to take great pains to remain close without imposing. It is possible that Elan considers the diner Rafa’s “territory.” This means that he won’t encounter Clarise directly. She must either seek him out or they bump into each other unexpectedly. I, for one cannot wait. This dance of Elan’s “moth” around the “flame” of Rafa’s life is stressful! I can only imagine what it is like for the boys.

          • Very astute, as always.

          • kuku

I just realized that Elan is probably also afraid of running into Rafa WITH JAKE, like he thought he saw at the library, which would be excruciating.

I wonder when Rafa’s interview with Hudson is.

I think some female intervention may be needed here. Clarise, Miss-I-forget-her-name-neighbor with the coffee cake, Murakami, somebody… Rafa’s mom… I would make up a scenario involving Elan rescuing Mujercita, except I think she’s a pretty self-sufficient kitty…

      • SVM2015

Bonus points for the TNG Guinan reference. That pretty much sums up this situation. And another quote for their solution “If [Elan] knows what he [Rafa] knows, it’s time to throw that book away.” They need to let go of the has-beens and could-bes so that they can focus on the can-becomes and can-dos to move forward.

        • Donald, from what I have gathered in his comments, is a huge Star Trek fan!

          • SVM2015

Looks like you’ve got two in the mix! ;)

          • Maybe more. ^_^

  • Roxabel Victoria Pérez Egaña

OMG. Mice, you are a genius for face expressions. Elan’s confused face is gorgeous.

Honestly I don’t think that Rafa was aloof because he wasn’t with Elan in that art opening. He was completely uncomfortable in that luxurious, hollow environment. He was all like “wtf am I doing here” and hipsters love to go against the tide, so they loved him. What. Of course he would feel uncomfortable. xd
But what worries me more is that those two are in love with complete idealizations of each other. Rafa is a bit ahead, because he now knows that Elan is so brave and needs no protection and staff. But Elan doesn’t understand very much about Rafa because of his previous insecurity. Damn those boys, why don’t they just face each other and talk their f¨*** true feelings face to face? -.-

    • kuku

Yeah, that’s really true, both parts of it. Rafa being really uncomfortable there, and them really misunderstanding some things about each other. They both had some really wrong impressions of what a happy home life each other came from, for one thing. And Elan has totally missed the impact of his almost-dying on Rafa.

  • JesBelle

Elan, it’s waaaay past time you stopped into the diner, baby.

  • Red

Date cuenta Elan… Rafa ya no es el mismo, TU LE HACES FALTA!

    • D. Garrett

translation: Realize Elan … Rafa is not the same , TU DO YOU NEED !

      • Red

Let me fix it please. Elan you have to realize, Rafa is not the same, HE MISSES YOU! … :D

        • D. Garrett

ah! that makes more sense. :)

          • Red

            How you’re doing?

          • D. Garrett

            meh. grumpy. u?

          • Red

Why? Don’t be… (just joking! we all get grumpy sometimes)

  • Oriana

I just. Need them. To tell each other what’s really going on. What they’re feeling, assuming, and thinking. That is all I need. Please, Mice, I’m begging you.

  • IronDog

Think, Elan. What could this mean.
