Wow, Elan. It seems like a long time has passed. I am really curious about what you are doing – something connected to the education / tutoring stuff maybe? – you sound very focused – but as usual you are being way too hard on yourself. Rafa did love you, and you were not at all a baby when you left home. You were resilient, adventurous and caring.

Hope your desiccated heart gets some refreshment soon.

  • I could imagine that Elan had way too much to do to be able to write in a journal for a while.

It was really sweet of Gerard to get Elan a new journal. I just hope he wasn’t reading those scraps that Elan was using….

*hugs for Elan on many different levels*

Oh, this journal entry breaks my heart! But don’t be so sure, Elan, that nobody noticed what state you were in. There seem to be a few people in your life who care and who do notice. Gerard pointed Uncle Felipe the right way to the roof because “you seemed upset” (having noticed your love of heights previously) and he noticed your journal entries on scraps of paper (and most probably kept them safe). I hope you kept him employed, it’s important to surround yourself with people you can rely on. And I’m sure Uncle Felipe expected you to do everything that you did!

I like how Elan said no one noticed his mourning in the same breath he mentioned how he could never slip one past Gerard. Elan is normally so keen and perceptive but yeah, I know how anger and grief can leave one tunnel visioned. I like how he said he was petulant when he should have been patient. Kudos for catching that but Elan, honey, that comes with being young and finding one’s place in the world. It’s refreshingly normal.

I always am hard at my limit to cry when I read journal entries of either of them :(

Okay, Psyche, go wear through your seven pairs of shoes or ask favors from the queen of the dead or whatever tasks you’ve set for yourself. Just remember we’ll be wearing iron bands on our hearts until you get around to reclaiming your love god so don’t dilly-dally too much.

Man this entry is depressing, Rafa adored ya man. one way streets and closed doors don’t allow for adventures. Welp I don’t know if there’s going to be a time skip since he says he didn’t have time to write for a long time or if he’s just talking about how he had to be incognito when with his father. I can’t wait to see what he’s done with all that money, probably something philanthropic with enough that he can get by.

Now I am going to have to re-read from the beginning.
There were things I remember Rafa showing him and teaching him so he could be more self reliant.
Rafa did want to protect him … and there is a certain amount of obligation one takes when they enter a relationship, be it platonic or otherwise. Rafa is trying to do the right thing by Elan (even if it may be misguided – but since he has not been given the chance to explain himself, we don’t know for sure); while Elan obviously feels no obligation towards Rafa … I’m still not happy with the fact he just left Rafa in the cold like he did. From the looks of this journal entry all Rafa got for his kindness was seeing Elan shot, thinking Elan dead, being degraded by Elan’s father and then having Elan hang up on him with no explanation.

    This is frustrating!
I can’t wait until the next chapter.

I just wonder how Rafa is doing at this point. It’s been a while since we’ve seen him and it wasn’t on great terms if I can recall. I just want Elan to be happy again :(

Matisyahu? I love you, I do.
