  • This is very reminiscent of the plot from Tanith Lee’s ‘The Silver Metal Lover’. I also see bits of Harlan Ellison’s ‘Web of the City’ here. Great story…

    • The Mice

Oh I want to read those stories, but maybe after I finish this story so I won’t be influenced. I quit reading some of my fav webcomics too because I am so susceptible to good story lines. Though I did take some old tried-and-true tropes!

      Thank you!

  • Pat

Wow! I am so happy I found your comic today. I have read it through from the beginning and I LOVE it!! Your artistic talent is awesome. The story engaging and great characters. I look forward to your updates. :o)

    • The Mice

*\o/* I hope you continue to like it! I have a lot more planned. :)

  • Micklanis

I love the story I have to say I probably addicted to this comic :) I cant wait to see everything you have planned.

    • The Mice

THANK YOU! definitely a labor of live for me and I have a LOT planned. lots if stuff still to happen. :)

  • Lleyn

Oh Rafa, you don’t look so good… It’s sad how he misses Elan even though he thinks Elan is better off where he is now (which is so not true). Great shot, the picture with the shoe! Hard to do perspective, I’d imagine.

    • The Mice

Yes, that is what he is thinking.

Perspective is hard, especially since I never was formally trained. I had to use a reference for that one.

      Thanks for reading!

  • Pork with Bones

You cannot avoid being influenced by works that have come before. The only cure is to read them all. Read everything, as much as you can, and it will help you find your own voice.

I just found this comic earlier today. I’m enjoying it very much so far.

    • themice

I’m glad you are enjoying it Pork and Bones!

Well, Pork and Bones (just wanted to type that again), I do read books, but they are not too related to what I’m doing now. I love reading the zine Creative Nonfiction Magazine, and I just finished A Death in the Family by James Agee and reading The Secret Life of Objects by Dawn Raffel – their lyrical prose inspires me to create but not borrow. :) So it isn’t entirely truthful that I’m not influenced, I just try to keep away from webcomics or books too similar to like mine.

I do have to say one book I read a while ago that started Elan and Rafa was A Folded Leaf by William Maxwell. Elan is patterned a LOT from Lymie and there is some Spud in Rafa. I don’t want to do that too often.

  • Red

He reminds me of Kurt Kobain with that looks

  • Chris Roller

Not formally trained? Coulda fooled me…
